Gigapixel viewer (5 posts)

A friend and I shot a few 18.5 gigapixel images of a project we did for school (hazelnut research project). We went out and purchased a connect and were hoping to present the images utilizing this software. We have the panoramic viewer working, but do no have the gigapixel viewer working. I’ve used XML and can program nice flash banners…but other than that my abilities (lack there-of) go as far a modifying existing code.

All were looking to do is display a gigapixel, pan, and zoom…am I missing something easy here or am I in over my head?

I apologize ahead of time as I’m sure this community is rooted more on developers as opposed to hand holding novices such as myself.

Also worth a mention that we’ve been rendering these files spherically. I can put them in cube faces but am not sure that the size would be very accommodating when it comes to the image format that is being outputted. It appears that the gigapixel viewer isn’t communicating with the kinect, but instead is setup for a touch device instead. I can control and drag with a mouse but that’s it.

    Jim,

What touch device are you trying to use? Look in the CML file within the bin folder and look for simulator. Make sure it is turned off (simulator=false).

I am having the same problem and we are about to open our exhibit to the public! I installed just as the README Quickstart Guide said. First I downloaded the setup_tuio_kinect_complete-1.0.0, then I installed Adobe AIR, then finally the KinectGigaPixel.air file. The TUIO Kinect is ready my movements great, but it is not translating to the Kinect Gigapixel Viewer. I have not changed the .cml file so it still says

However, when opening the Panoramic Viewer I have no problem navigating the the image with gestures through the Kinect, but I cannot load my own image into it. We have created a gigapixel panorama and cube mapped it using Pano2QTVR. I place the images in the resources file and changed the in the .xml file. The image would not load and I got an error message saying “improper bitmap.”

Our exhibit opens tomorrow and I need to get our image working on either the Kinect Gigapixel Viewer or the Panorama Viewer ASAP.

What are you using to render your gigapixel files? The Gigapixel uses the OpenZoom/Microsoft DeepZoom libraries to interpret gigapixel file branches. Do you have access to a Windows PC with Photoshop?

Also, as for the Kinect, is tuio=”true” set in the CML tag? Could you possibly copy that to show us what you’re running?

If you downloaded the Kinect Gigapixel project, you should be altering the GigapixelElement file.
